Hey gorgeous 🌸 Does styling your hair overwhelm you? Or maybe it’s just not a priority cause you work from home and see no reason to spend the time on it. Whatever your reason, prioritizing our routines will help us get to the lifestyle we are looking to achieve!
In this blog, you will learn…
🌿 The pros + cons of air drying
🌿 The pros + cons of blow drying
🌿 Tips for blow drying smooth hair
🌿 Tips for diffusing wavy/ curly hair
The Pros of Air Drying
🌿 Wake up, pull it up + go
Air drying can create simplicity for a busy life
🌿Waves/Curls form easier
No awkward puffiness when trying to dry natural curls
🌿 Less time required
Your hair just isn’t a priority right now, air drying require less maintenance
The Cons of Air Drying
🌿 Hair is more prone to frizz
Frizz happens when your hair is looking for more moisture. When some of it is dry and some still wet, your hair is searching for moisture in the air
🌿Can take twice as long to dry
As your hair air dries, it dries inconsistently and in some places doesn’t dry completely
🌿Can cause mildew + fungus
Because there is no air flow that can penetrate your hair in the back (especially in the back under the crown of your head) your hair may not dry all the way which can cause mildew on your scalp
🌿Breakage can happen
Wet hair is the most fragile state. If you tend to pull hair up when it’s wet or even get it caught in your hoodie, you could be unintentionally breaking your hair off
🌿 Tangles easier
Wet hair can twist + matte together to create tangles that are tough to get out
I understand that easy, wake up + go lifestyle is enticing but it might not be the best for your scalp or hair in long run.
The Pros of Blow Drying
🌿 Automatically Smoother Hair
By blow drying your hair in a downward motion, the cuticle lays flat, reduces frizz + creates more shine
🌿Your Hair Dries Quicker
By taking slow + small sections the air flow can work easier to get your hair dry from roots to ends
🌿Reduce Frizz in Wavy/Curly Hair
Diffusing your hair (after all products are applied) will set your curls + hold in moisture to reduce frizz for multiple days
Blow drying your hair may seem like it takes forever but… if you put a plan in place for your sections and do it the same way over and over, it gets quicker! Sometimes it’s all about knowing what to do and then making the time to do it!
Now…
The Cons of Blow Drying
🌿 Time is required
When you learn a sectioning technique, the time goes quicker and becomes easier because it becomes part of your routine
🌿Heat is used
The heat being used by a blow dryer is not directly on your hair and is a much lower setting than any thermal tool such as a curling iron
🌿 Feel like your might not be “good” at it
Trust me, no one is bad at blow drying their hair. You just have to learn the right technique and how to do it effectively. That’s where I come in 😉
Tips for Blow Drying Hair Smooth
🌿 Start by pointing your blow dryer down your hair shaft, do not flip your head upside down (this will create unnecessary frizz)
🌿Rough dry your hair 80% before using a brush, blow dry brush or brush dryer attachment
🌿 Section your hair on the top of your head, the 2 sides + 2/3 sections in the back of your head
🌿If it feels awkward to dry your hair in the back, pull your hair towards the front to make it easier
🌿Small sections will always go faster since the air flow can go directly through your hair
🌿Slower hand motions will dry faster
Tips for Diffusing Wavy/Curly Hair
🌿Brush or comb hair in the shower while hair is wet
🌿Always, always always apply hair care products in soaking wet hair
🌿Apply hair care in sections from roots to ends
🌿Use a couple different products to adhere to the different curl patterns in your hair
🌿Use a diffuser with a CONCAVE bowl
🌿 Scrunch the crunch out for loose, natural curls or keep some crunch in to define your curls
Overall these are really good tips to follow if you want to prioritize your hair routine. I understand life gets hard and sometimes you have to push your hair to the back burner but…
Air drying your hair is ultimately not healthy for your scalp or hair!
